Teoscar Hernandez became the first player from the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the home run derby. After hitting 14 home runs in the final round during the event in July 2024 at Globe Life Field in Texas, the athlete celebrated his victory during an interview.
«It's amazing, man, everything I’m feeling right now», - he said, according to ESPN. «There are no words to describe what I’m feeling, in front of my family, in front of everyone who’s here».
Teoscar made his professional baseball debut in 2011, signing with the Houston Astros as a free agent. After playing in the minor leagues for several years, the Astros promoted him to the MLB in 2016. The following year, he was traded from the Astros to the Toronto Blue Jays.
In 2022, Teoscar was traded to the Seattle Mariners before signing a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in early 2024.
This outfielder hails from Cotui, Sanchez Ramirez, Dominican Republic.
In July 2024, Teoscar took home the trophy for winning the home run derby, becoming the first player from the Dodgers to win this event.
According to ESPN, Teoscar had the sixth-longest odds out of eight participants in the home run derby.
«No matter who I’m competing against. I’ll bet on myself», - he said. «People might underestimate me. You can see it at the end when Witt hit all those balls. Everyone was rooting for him. But I’m just as talented as all those guys out there. They might be younger, but the talent is the same».
Although baseball is his passion, Teoscar prioritizes his family. However, the athlete keeps much of his personal life away from the public eye. Teoscar is married and has three children.
In 2021 and 2024, Teoscar was selected as a participant in the All-Star Game
