Terrorist attack on New Year’s in New Orleans: 10 people killed, dozens injured

The attack on a vehicle in New Orleans on the eve of New Year’s Day left Americans in deep sorrow. One person drove a white pickup truck with a black flag into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter in the early morning hours of January 1, 2025. As a result of the incident, at least 10 people died, dozens of others were injured, including two police officers. Now, as law enforcement agencies investigate what they call a «terrorist attack», - many want to know who the suspect is.

The FBI explained what happened in a statement quoted by the New York Post, which reads: «This morning, one person drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing several people and injuring dozens of others. The suspect then clashed with local law enforcement and is now dead. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism».
The police shot the suspect. President Joe Biden issued a statement on the incident, noting that he is «grateful for the brave and swift response of local law enforcement in preventing even more deaths and injuries» and that he has «directed his team to ensure the availability of all resources, as federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are diligently working to understand what happened as quickly as possible and ensure that there is no remaining threat of any kind».
«I will continue to receive updates throughout the day, and I will have more to say when we have additional information to share», - Biden said, adding: «In the meantime, my heart goes out to the victims and their families who were just trying to celebrate the holiday. There is no justification for any kind of violence, and we will not tolerate any attacks on any of the communities in our nation».
The identity of the suspect has not been publicly disclosed. However, as seen in photos from the crime scene, the pickup truck appeared to have Texas license plates
