An explosion occurred at a Palm Springs infertility clinic in California on Saturday, May 17, which the FBI called a «deliberate act of terrorism». Online photos have emerged showing extensive damage caused by the explosion to the structure of American Reproductive Centers. On May 17, at around 11:00 local time, a huge explosion occurred near several local businesses less than a mile from the center of Palm Springs. It was found that a bomb exploded either inside or near a vehicle at the American Reproductive Centers infertility clinic. The explosion was so destructive that it blew out windows and walls of the building.
The FBI held a public conference that day to inform the public about their investigation, calling the explosion a «deliberate act of terrorism».
«As our investigation progresses, we will determine whether this is international terrorism or domestic terrorism», - said Akil Davis, head of the FBI’s Los Angeles office.
Later, the bureau stated that they have a «person of interest» in their investigation, but the police are «not actively seeking» the suspect. However, this changed when the identity of the suspect was revealed by several sources.
According to multiple sources familiar with the investigation, the suspect is 25-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, Guy Edward Bartkus. Before the explosion occurred, Bartkus allegedly stated in written form and/or recordings that he was against forcing people to give birth, reports The Guardian.
According to the Associated Press, the suspect attempted to record or broadcast the attack on the infertility clinic.
The only known fatality as a result of the explosion was the suspect Bartkus, according to several sources. Four other people were injured in the explosion, reports The Guardian.
