The actress is best known for her roles as Sandy in «Tootsie» (1982), Inga in «Young Frankenstein» (1974), and Ronnie Neary in «Close Encounters of the Third Kind» (1974). Of course, her acting credits extend far beyond these three titles. She appeared in films such as «After Hours» (1985) and «Mr. Mom» (1983), and had recurring roles in the TV series «McCloud» and «Batman: Beyond».
Who could forget that sitcom twist? Phoebe and Ursula Buffay’s mother turned out to be Phoebe Abbott, played by Teri.
Teri was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, and later suffered a brain aneurysm in December 2006. Multiple sclerosis is a «potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord», - according to Web MD.
During an interview on CNN in 2002, Teri described the pain she had to live with, and when she found out she had multiple sclerosis.
«Many years ago, I was running, jogging in the park, and suddenly started tripping», - she explained at the time. «It was just, like, my toe. I started tripping, and then it would go away. Then my arm started tingling. And I went to one doctor who said, 'Oh, it’s an orthopedic problem'… I called my brother in Los Angeles, who’s a doctor, and he said, 'You know, get a second opinion.' So I went to a neurologist. And he said, 'Yes, it’s a pinched nerve'».
Despite her health struggles, Teri maintained a positive outlook on her condition, noting that «the good news now is that there are a lot of good medications and options for people».
After her health deteriorated, Teri retired from acting. Her last role was in a 2011 episode of the series «How to Marry a Billionaire», where she played Lindsay’s mother.
She gave birth to her daughter, Molly O’Neil, in 1993 with her ex-husband, actor John O’Neil
