Terry Moran has been a familiar face on ABC News for a long time, known for his sharp reporting and nearly thirty years of experience covering everything from the White House to Supreme Court confirmations. But in June 2025, his career at the network suddenly came to an end after a scandalous post on X, which led to his temporary suspension and soon after, the termination of his contract.

Now, just days after his departure, Moran is charting a new path. The veteran journalist has launched an independent platform on Substack, signaling a major change in how he plans to continue his work. «For almost 28 years, I was a reporter and anchor at ABC News. And, as you may have heard, I am no longer there», - he said in a video posted on June 11. «I am here with you on Substack, in this amazing space, and I can’t wait to get to work», - he shared. «To tackle the important work that we all have ahead of us in this challenging time for our country».

As the media world reacts — with figures like Jon Stewart calling ABC’s decision «so stupid» — Moran seems ready to embrace this next chapter on his own terms. Learn more about Moran, his temporary suspension, his net worth, and much more below.

Shortly before that, ABC News suspended Moran, stating that his post «is a clear violation of ABC News policy», - because the network «does not endorse subjective personal attacks on others» and emphasized its commitment to «objectivity, fairness, and professionalism».

The White House also weighed in — press secretary Caroline Levitt called the comments «deranged and unacceptable» and publicly asked ABC, «how they plan to hold Terry accountable».
