Taylor Swift has revised her plans for the release of the music video for the song «Patient Zero». During the video shoot, which took place in March, she expressed her admiration for the work of cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and the set design, and contemplated how to best present the video to a wider audience.
Swift shared her thoughts in a video posted to her Instagram Stories on September 27, and asked about the date of the MTV Video Music Awards. On the same day, she learned that the ceremony would indeed take place on September 27.
As a result, the official premiere of the music video for «Patient Zero» will take place at the MTV Video Music Awards 2026, where Swift will also be recognized for her achievements. She directed the video herself, which features Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, with Lubezki handling the cinematography.
The song «Patient Zero» was released on September 25 as part of the expanded version of her 12th studio album «The Life of a Showgirl». Swift drew inspiration for the track from conversations with friends about complicated relationships, which prompted her to think about how to represent this theme in music.
In the teaser for the video, Swift is depicted in a mysterious modern house, as well as comforting Johnson at a cemetery by the grave marked with the years of life of an unknown daughter from 1989 to 2022. The album «The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore» is already available for streaming.
