Taylor Swift admitted that she was «shocked» after three children were killed in a knife attack in Southport, United Kingdom, on Monday, July 29. The pop star, 34, posted her statement on her Instagram story on Tuesday, July 30. She shared that she was heartbroken for the families of those who were killed and injured during the attack.
Taylor’s message expressed sympathy for the «horrendous trauma» that the victims and their loved ones must be experiencing after the attack. «The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport continues to weigh heavily on me, and I am just completely shocked… The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone there, families and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance lesson. I truly don’t know how to convey my condolences to these families», - she said.
Police responded to calls at a dance school in Southport on Monday afternoon. The school was hosting a «Taylor Swift Yoga and Dance Masterclass» for children aged 6 to 11, according to ABC News. Two girls, aged 6 and 7, were killed, and nine others were injured. A third girl, aged 9, died on Tuesday morning in the hospital. Police said they believe that the adults who were injured were trying to protect their children.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. His name was not disclosed.
In the past, Taylor has made statements about fans who have died at her concerts or events related to her music. In November 2023, she met with the family of a fan who died of a heart attack during one of her concerts in Rio de Janeiro. After the fan’s death, she posted a statement on Instagram to mourn his passing. «I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but with a heavy heart I announce that we lost a fan earlier this evening before my show.
