Tiger Woods named his mother Kultida his hero, accepting the USGA Bob Jones Award last week. Receiving the award on Tuesday, June 11, the 48-year-old golfer paid tribute to his 80-year-old «mom». He was accompanied by his two children, son Charlie and daughter Sam, whom he shares with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

«My mom doesn’t get enough recognition», - Tiger admitted before reflecting on his career path. «Everyone thought it was me and dad on the road, which it was, but mom was at home. If you don’t know, mom was with me my whole life, she’s always been there for me in everything».

Acknowledging that he accepts the Bob Jones award «humbly», Tiger added that he also accepts it «for [his] mom too».

«She allowed me to achieve this, allowed me to do these things, pursue my dreams», - continued the PGA star. «I didn’t do this alone, I had the best foundation a child could have — my mom. Thank you, mom».

Mother and son embraced as he returned to his family’s table.

According to the USGA, the World Golf Hall of Fame member was honored with the «highest honor» for his «commitment to sportsmanship and respect for the traditions of golf». The association also noted that Tiger «redefined the game of golf in the modern era, overcoming physical and personal obstacles, demonstrating characteristics of perseverance, mental strength, and resilience».

This is not the first time Tiger has praised his parents, Kultida and Earl, who passed away in May 2006 after battling prostate cancer. At his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2022, the athlete recalled the «difficult decision» his mom and dad made to support his burgeoning golf career.

«My family made a difficult decision, and at age 14 and a half, we took out a second mortgage so I could go out and play on the AJGA tour», - explained Tiger at the time, according to the PGA Tour. «Mom stayed home. Dad traveled. And I went out and played on the AJGA tour on our second mortgage… So, without the sacrifices of mom, who drove me to all those junior golf tournaments, and dad, who’s not here now, but who instilled in me that work ethic, that fight for what I believe in, pursuing my dreams, nothing will ever be given to you, everything will be earned»
