Tim Allen had his mother by his side throughout his career, but unfortunately, his father passed away when he was young. Recently, the star of «Toy Story» opened up about his father’s death, recalling the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
«When Erica Kirk said the words about the man who killed her husband: 'This man… this young man… I forgive him.' That moment deeply affected me», - Tim wrote in a tweet in September 2025. «I struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my father. I will say these words now as I type: 'I forgive the man who killed my father.' Peace to all of you».

Tim’s mother was Martha Catherine (nee Fox). During the star’s childhood in «Home Improvement», - Martha worked in law enforcement.
After her husband’s death, Martha remarried her high school classmate, according to multiple sources.
Tim’s father was Gerald M. Dick, who worked as a real estate agent. He passed away in November 1964 when he was hit by a drunk driver on the road.

«My father took six kids and my mom to a football game in Colorado, and on the way back, in the middle of the day, a guy pulled out on I-70», - the comedian recalled, adding that his father «broke his neck and died in my mom’s lap, right there».
Tim was not in the car with his family at the time. «I would have normally been with [him]», - noted the «Santa Clause» star. «It was one of those days I went to the neighbors'».
«If you haven’t had a death in the family, everything changes… from your cells and DNA to a different color», - Tim explained. «Every little thing in my life changed. I knew at the moment he died, and it was four hours later that I found out».
Recalling the tragedy again in May 2025 on the podcast «What I Heard from Mike Rowe», - Tim said he knew that «something terrible had happened» before he was informed of Gerald’s death.
«I'm going to the house, knowing something terrible happened, although I didn’t know», - he said. «I get to the house, there’s police, and my uncle said, 'Be a man, your mom needs you right now, so don’t cry'»
