Tim Cook, who has been the face of Apple for over ten years, announced his intention to step down as CEO this year. This statement was made on April 20, 2026, after Cook had led the company since Steve Jobs' departure in 2011 and witnessed a number of revolutionary innovations.

In Apple’s press release, Cook noted that serving as CEO has been «the greatest privilege» of his life and that he was «trusted to lead such an extraordinary company».

«I love Apple with all my heart and am very grateful for the opportunity to work with a team of brilliant, innovative, creative, and caring people who are relentlessly striving to improve the lives of our customers and create the best products and services in the world», - he added.

Cook has held the position of CEO of Apple for 15 years, starting in 2011. He is currently 65 years old.

Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, was described by Cook as «undoubtedly the right person to lead Apple into the future».

«John Ternus has an engineering mind, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with honor and dignity», - Cook said in his statement. «He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already hard to count, and he is undoubtedly the right person to lead Apple into the future. I couldn’t be more confident in his abilities and character and look forward to working closely with him during this transition period and in my new role as executive chairman».

Ternus has served as Senior Vice President of Hardware at Apple since 2021 and has been with the company for over 20 years, starting in 2001. He will officially become CEO of Apple on September 1, 2026.

In his statement, Ternus expressed «deep gratitude for the opportunity to continue Apple’s mission».

«Having spent nearly my entire career at Apple, I have been fortunate to work under Steve Jobs and have Tim Cook as a mentor», - Ternus said. «It has been a privilege for me to help shape the products and experiences that have changed how we interact with the world and each other. I am optimistic about what we can achieve in the future, and I am pleased to know that the most talented people on earth work at Apple, striving to be part of something greater than each of us».

Ternus also promised to «lead with the values and vision that have defined this special place for half a century».

He is currently 50 years old and will celebrate his 51st birthday in May 2026
