Timothy Busfield surrendered to police following sexual assault allegations

Actor and director Timothy Busfield has faced allegations of sexual assault against a minor, which were later dropped. The allegations pertained to incidents that occurred during the filming of the series «The Cleaner» from 2022 to 2024, where Busfield served as executive producer and director.
According to a statement from the Albuquerque police, Busfield was accused of inappropriate touching of a child actor. During the investigation, he denied any «strange» interactions with children on set. Busfield’s attorney, Larry Stein, stated that the allegations are false and that an independent investigation confirmed this.
An arrest warrant for Busfield was issued on January 9, 2026. The indictment claims that the first incident occurred when the child was 7 years old, and he alleged that Busfield touched his «private parts» three or four times. In another instance, when the child was 8 years old, he stated that Busfield touched him five or six times. The child also reported that he was afraid to speak out about what happened because Busfield was the director.
Busfield surrendered to authorities on January 13, 2026, and stated that he intends to «fight these false allegations». He also noted that he was always surrounded by parents or teachers when working with children on set.
In addition to the current allegations, on January 14, 2026, new allegations emerged against Busfield concerning alleged sexual assault against another minor in the past. Busfield’s attorney stated that these allegations have not been substantiated and relate to events that occurred 25 years ago.
As a result of the case, Busfield was dropped by his agency, Innovative Artists. Prosecutors are seeking to keep him in custody until the trial begins, arguing that his actions pose a serious threat to children.
