Timothée Chalamet takes on the challenging role of Bob Dylan in the film «The Full Unknown». The biographical film will be released later this year, and teasers released by Searchlight Pictures show the actor from «Dune» singing. But there is one question that interests all Bob Dylan fans: does Timothée sing with his own voice? The answer to this question can be found on Hollywood Life.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of «The Full Unknown» reads: «Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and turbulent cultural upheavals, a mysterious 19-year-old guy from Minnesota arrives in West Village with a guitar and a revolutionary talent destined to change the course of American music. As he builds his closest relationships during his rise to fame, he becomes intolerant of the folk movement and, refusing to be defined, makes a controversial choice that has a cultural echo around the world».

During an interview with Rolling Stone in July 2024, director James Mangold revealed that Timothée, whom he calls «Timmy», actually sang on set. When asked if it was an «idea» to use live performances of the actors for the film, James clarified: «It's not an idea. It’s what we did! Yes».

«I think what’s wonderful about what Timmy is doing is that, without answering questions about Bob, at the same time I think he’s doing it very poetically, offering real empathy through his performance, as you would like to make music, but you wouldn’t want people to be in your face all the time», - the director told the publication. «I think he’s walking a really beautiful line, allowing the audience to see how much joy it is for this character to make music and the pure joy he experiences in his camaraderie with other musicians and his exploration of ideas and words and music, both creating it and listening to others».

James also noted that Timmy’s «deep» talent during his performance lies in «his almost genetically conditioned discomfort that his own great achievements lead to, in terms of people who want something, transactional relationships or relationships that are spoiled by immense power and talent».

«And I think he will do an incredible job growing the character, because one of the things that will be striking is that most Dylan fans are not focused on the boy in the newsboy cap who comes to town», - the director of «Walk the Line» said. «And Timmy really carries this character from a 19-year-old boy telling stories about working at the carnival, to this man we recognize as an icon. Timmy finds a way to get us there».

In addition to Timothée, the main roles are also played by Monica Barbaro, Elle Fanning, and Ed Norton. Monica was seen in «Top Gun: Maverick» and plays the role of singer Joan Baez; Elle recently starred in «The Girl from Plainville». She plays the role of Sylvie Russo. As for Ed, he plays Pete Seeger in the film
