Tomassino Offer, baseball player, died in an accident
Tommasino «Tommy» Offer, a freshman on the Wheaton College baseball team, died after his car collided with a freight train on October 11. He was 18 years old.

According to Wheaton’s head coach Matt Hastad, the team is mourning and supporting Tommy’s family and friends during this difficult time. He noted that Offer was a genuine and joyful person who possessed qualities that made him an excellent teammate.

The accident, which is still under investigation, occurred when Offer stopped his car at a railroad crossing in Wheaton, Illinois, to let a westbound train pass. After the train went by, he began to cross the tracks and was struck by a train coming from the opposite direction.

Father Santo Castillo of St. Michael’s Catholic Church spoke with Offer on the morning of the tragedy and reported that the student was heading to Chicago with a friend. Hastad added that Offer was someone who genuinely cared about others and formed connections with people in the Wheaton community beyond baseball.

In an obituary published by Offer’s family, his friendliness and desire to befriend classmates were also highlighted. His former school, Notre Dame Preparatory School in Pontiac, Michigan, described him as an outstanding student and a wonderful young man, beloved by teachers and classmates.

Offer’s friends shared memories of him on his obituary page. One of his friends, Alana O’Brien, noted that she would always be grateful for their friendship and the moments they spent together.
