Tony Dokoupil replaced Moritz Dubuy and John Dickerson on the CBS Evening News program at the end of 2025. As part of the reorganization of the Paramount Skydance network, the former co-host of CBS Mornings will now host the evening news program. But who will take his place on the morning show?
In his New Year’s address to CBS viewers, Tony promised to put them «first» and provide honest and accurate news.
«Much has changed since the first person sat in the anchor chair of Evening News. For me, the main difference is that people do not trust us as they once did», - Tony began. «And this is not just about us. It concerns all traditional media… Sometimes they want to talk to me about our coverage of NAFTA or the Iraq War. Other times—about Hillary Clinton’s emails or Russiagate. Or, more recently, about COVID lockdowns, Hunter Biden’s laptop, or the president’s fitness for office».
Tony also stated that the press «missed the story» in many cases, «because we considered the opinions of lawyers rather than the average American. Or we relied too much on the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you».
«So here’s my promise to you, while I sit in this chair: you come first», - Tony promised, adding, «Not advertisers. Not politicians. Not corporate interests. And yes, this includes the corporate owners of CBS (Paramount Skydance). I report to you. That means I tell you what I know, when I know it, and how I know it. And when I’m wrong, I will tell you that too. It also means I will talk to everyone and hold all public servants accountable. And because I became a journalist to communicate with people».
Tony concluded his lengthy statement by urging viewers to «hold [him] to [his] word» regarding «the truth».
Below you can find out who will replace Tony on CBS Mornings and more about his role in the evening program.
Moritz and John did not specify why they suddenly left CBS Evening News in December 2025. However, since CBS’s parent company Paramount merged with Skydance, there has been a significant reorganization of personnel at CBS.
As of January 2026, CBS has not announced a long-term replacement for Tony on CBS Mornings.
Currently, CBS Mornings is hosted by Gayle King and Nate Burleson
