On Monday, August 19, a tragedy occurred in Sicily when the luxurious yacht Bayesian sank due to a whirlpool, leading to what was described as an «unbelievable story». On board the yacht, which had 22 passengers, most were rescued, but six people were confirmed dead, including British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch. The last missing person is Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah.

This incident raised concerns for Giovanni Constantino, the leader of The Italian Sea Group. According to CNN, Constantino questioned how the passengers on board did not notice the approaching storm and the problems with the supposedly «unsinkable ship». He stated: «Everything that happened indicates a series of significant errors. Passengers should not have been in the cabins, and the boat should not have been at anchor. Why did the crew not know about the approaching chaos?»

Constantino also noted that weather maps had already warned of the natural disaster, so it is difficult to understand how the passengers were caught off guard. «Passengers reported that the storm came suddenly, but that’s not true. Everything was predictable. I have weather maps in front of me. Nothing came suddenly», - he said. He also pointed out that the absence of fishermen in the area should have been a clear warning sign.

Fisherman Pietro Asciutto, who witnessed the tragedy, shared his vision according to the Washington Post. «I was at home when the tornado hit. I immediately closed all the windows», - he said. He continued: «Then I saw the boat — it had only one mast, and it was very big. I saw it suddenly sink… The boat was still floating, and then suddenly disappeared».

This tragedy followed the fact that the late Mike Lynch, owner of Bayesian, put the yacht up for sale in March for 30 million pounds (approximately 39 million US dollars), according to the Telegraph. Later, he changed his mind and took it off the market to go sailing in the summer, with plans to put it back up for sale in the fall.

According to PEOPLE, passengers on board noted Lynch’s recent exoneration in financial fraud in the US. An insider shared: «That's why he took his close friends and colleagues on this trip»
