The body of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch was discovered by rescue services after his yacht sank off the coast of Sicily during a severe storm. According to official sources, his death has been confirmed.

However, several months before the super yacht’s crash, 59-year-old Lynch, founder of Autonomy Corporation, was considering selling the vessel but changed his mind after being acquitted, the report states.

The technology magnate was one of six missing persons after the 183-foot yacht «Bayesian» sank around 5 a.m. local time on Monday, August 19, after being hit by a tornado-like waterspout during the storm. The ship’s cook, Reinaldo Thomas, was also found dead on Monday, while 15 people survived the disaster.

Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was rescued on Monday, but his 18-year-old daughter Hannah remains missing.

Massimo Mariani, a representative of the Ministry of the Interior, told Reuters that Hannah may be trapped in the wreckage or may have been thrown into the sea during the shipwreck. An Italian fire department spokesperson stated that it may take several days to find the last missing person, given the difficulties faced by divers working at a depth of 50 meters (165 feet).

The Italian Coast Guard also confirmed that the bodies of Jonathan Blumer, his wife Judith Blumer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Neda Morvillo were found on the ship the previous day.

Lynch put the yacht up for sale for 30 million pounds (approximately 39 million US dollars) in March of this year, but took it off the market in July, according to the Telegraph. He planned to spend the summer on board the ship and then reconsider the decision to sell it in the fall, according to industry sources.

After being acquitted, Lynch stated that he was «overjoyed» and looking forward to returning to his family and estate in Suffolk.

Lynch was a prominent figure in the British technology industry, often compared to Microsoft founder Bill Gates for his success in supporting innovative companies. His death occurred just a few months after being acquitted in federal court in San Francisco on fraud charges related to the sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for 11 billion dollars in 2011.

David Tabizel, co-founder of Autonomy, said: «It seems we have lost our dear Dr. Mike Lynch. Rest in peace. The world has lost a genius. His family has lost a giant of a man».

Andrew Canter, a close friend and colleague of Lynch, remarked: «He was the brightest mind and most caring person I have ever known. In nearly a quarter of a century, I have worked alongside someone unparalleled in understanding technology and business»
