Cheerleader Emily Gold, a participant in the show America’s Got Talent, passed away at the age of 17 on Friday, September 13. Emily appeared in the 19th season of the competition, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Her family announced her passing on Instagram on Sunday, September 15, stating: «Our hearts are now filled with a huge void the size of the universe».
The message from her family — Brandy, Steve, and Alex — read: «Dear friends, with deep sorrow we must inform you that we have lost our beautiful Emily». They continued: «The outpouring of love and support we are receiving shows us how many lives this angel touched and lifted, and that is what will help us get through the most difficult time of our lives. Thank you all for your love and support».
The post received over three thousand likes and more than 300 comments expressing immense support for the late cheerleader. Her brother Alex commented: «I love you, little sister. I will do everything for you. I will always look for you in the sky». In addition, the family shared that they will «announce funeral details as soon as they are organized».
Although the family did not specify the cause of death, the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office ruled it as a suicide. This news came after Emily was praised just a few weeks earlier in August by AGT judge Simon Cowell, who described her performance with her dance team from Los Osos High School Varsity Dance as «absolutely brilliant».
In May, Emily shared a post about her experience on the show, captioning it: «WE MADE IT THROUGH CASTING!!! It was the most incredible experience, and we couldn’t have done it without @rachelmuego and @kylee.kam. Thank you both for creating and leading the most beautiful family».
Furthermore, her dance team shared a tribute video from the varsity dance captain, saying: «Our sweet, sweet Emily — we love you endlessly and miss you more than words can express. Everything we do, we do for you, our beautiful angel».
