Justin Fairfax, the former lieutenant governor of Virginia, has been accused of shooting his wife, Serina Fairfax, before taking his own life, police reported on April 16, 2026. The couple’s children were at home at the time of the tragedy.

Fairfax served as the 41st lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2018 to 2022.

Justin and his late wife Serina had two teenagers. One of them called 911 on the night their parents died. According to Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis, the children are now in the care of their grandparents and other relatives.

«This is terrible for the children — to lose both parents, especially tragically, while they were in the house when it happened», - Davis said. «This is certainly a fall from grace for a relatively well-known family that seemed to have a lot of good things going for them».

According to police, Fairfax apparently shot his wife and then himself. The police are investigating the suspected murder-suicide after responding to a 911 call at the couple’s home in Annandale, Virginia, where a deceased man and woman were found.

Police Chief Davis stated that the same firearm was used by both spouses.

«Half of America is probably going through a divorce process at some point, and fortunately, it very rarely ends this way», - Davis noted. «This is very sad for this community… many people who knew the Fairfax family are in shock. We are in shock».
