Greg was born and raised in Washington State. He spent his childhood in Camas and began his racing career on short tracks in the Pacific Northwest.
After gaining popularity as a racer in the 1990s, Greg started his NASCAR career in 1995, winning the Craftsman Truck championship in 2000 and the Rookie of the Year title in the Busch Series in 2001. In the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, racing for the Roush team, Greg achieved 19 victories in the Ford car number 16.
In 2016, Greg left NASCAR but returned in 2019 and 2020, participating in the Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports.
Greg married his first wife, Nicole Lunders, in 2007. They separated in 2015, and their divorce was finalized in 2016. By 2020, he was engaged to his future second wife, Christina Grossu. They married in January 2023.
The late racer is survived by two children. A daughter named Emma from his marriage to Nicole, and a son named Ryder from Christina.
