According to ESPN, the late athlete was accused of being involved in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man on December 17, 2024. In January of this year, Lacy surrendered to authorities and was briefly held in jail before being released on a $ 151,000 bond.
According to a press release from the Louisiana State Police, Lacy allegedly was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Highway 20 in December 2024 and «recklessly passed several vehicles at a high rate of speed, crossing the dividing line and entering the northbound lane in a no-passing zone».
«While Lacy was illegally passing other vehicles, the driver of the northbound pickup abruptly braked and turned right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge», - the press release continued. «Following the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza, whose driver turned left to avoid a collision with the approaching Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid a collision with the Dodge, it crossed the dividing line and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento».
The Louisiana State Police also claimed in their press release that Lacy drove past the accident scene, then fled the scene, «failing to stop to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the accident».
Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arsenault, insisted that his client «is fully cooperating with authorities», - according to ESPN.
