Kevin Warsh has been nominated by Donald Trump to serve as the Chair of the Federal Reserve, replacing Jerome Powell, whose term expires in May 2026. Trump announced this in a post on the Truth Social platform, writing: «I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Kevin Warsh to be the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM».
In the same post, Trump praised Warsh’s leadership qualities and experience, adding that he has known him for a «long time» and believes he will become «one of the GREAT Chairs of the Fed». Powell, who was first appointed to this position in 2017, has faced ongoing criticism regarding interest rates and inflation, making this nomination a significant event in U.S. economic policy.
Warsh served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2011. He was appointed during the administration of George W. Bush.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized Warsh’s experience at the Federal Reserve, noting that he «became the youngest Fed governor at the age of 35». Trump also mentioned that Warsh represented the Federal Reserve at G-20 meetings and served as the Board’s emissary in both developing and developed economies in Asia, as well as acting as the administrative governor overseeing the Board’s operations and staff.
In early 2026, Trump nominated Warsh to replace the current Fed Chair Powell. This nomination immediately attracted national attention: supporters praised Warsh’s reformist views, while critics expressed concerns about the independence of the central bank.
Warsh is married to Jane Lauder, the CEO of Estée Lauder and a member of the founding Lauder family. Through his marriage, Warsh is connected to one of the most well-known families in the global beauty industry, although he generally keeps his personal life out of the public eye
