Cecile Canquete-Landi congratulated Chiles and Simone Biles on their Olympic victories in a post on Instagram on Tuesday, August 6, also responding to a user who accused Chiles, 23, and her team of fraud to win the bronze in the floor exercise final.

«I shouldn’t have to explain, but I will do it ONCE», - wrote Canquete-Landi, 44. «Chiles' maximum possible value (starting value) on the floor is 5.9. In the qualification and team final, she received 5.8, and we didn’t argue because we saw that not all elements were executed».

«Ranking 5th without anything, I sent a request so I wouldn’t regret not asking. I didn’t think it would be accepted, and to my surprise, it was».

Cecile — herself an Olympic champion who competed at the 1996 Atlanta Games — emphasized that she was just doing her job as a coach and that everything happened fairly, stressing that Chiles «didn't steal anything from anyone» as she «just did her job and fought for» the athlete.

She continued: «I feel sorry for the Romanian athlete? Of course! It was so sad and heartbreaking to see, but this is sports!»

Cecile clarified again, concluding her post: «You don’t have to like it, but you must respect the result and, more importantly, respect Jordan and not drag her down because you disagree. She DESERVED this bronze medal».

The coach’s explanation comes amid ongoing disputes surrounding a series of events.

During the competition on Monday, the Romanian team requested a review of Sabrina Manek-Voine's performance, but her score remained unchanged. Mihai Coval, president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, sent a letter of protest to the Gymnastics Federation on Tuesday in a Facebook post, asking for a review of Manek-Voine's score.

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu later announced that he would skip the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Paris in protest. «I have decided not to attend the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Paris due to the scandalous situation in gymnastics, where our athletes were treated in an absolutely dishonest manner», - he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

«To withdraw a medal earned through honest work based on an appeal that neither coaches nor highly qualified technicians understand is absolutely unacceptable!»
