The third baseman of the Yankees, Osvaldo Cabrera, was brutally injured right on the field after sliding into home plate on Monday, May 12. He helped his team from New York win 11−5 against the Seattle Mariners. The athlete was seen grimacing in pain as the medical staff attended to his injury, and then he was taken from T-Mobile Park stadium in an ambulance.

While fans wait for updates on Osvaldo’s condition, Aaron Judge said it was «hard» to see his teammate in pain.

«Especially considering how much Cabrera means to this team, for him to get injured in such a situation speaks to what kind of person he is», - Aaron told reporters after the game, according to The New York Post. «Everyone here feels awful because we know how hard he works, how diligently he works, how much he loves and cares for everyone in this room, how he would approach every game, every day he was here, it was such a blessing. It’s never nice to see this happen to someone, but especially to a guy who means so much to us, it’s tough».

Below you will find out how Osvaldo is doing now, and learn what happened to him during the game.

Osvaldo is currently 26 years old, according to MLB.

In the top of the ninth inning of the game on May 12 against the Mariners, Osvaldo ran to home plate and managed to avoid the tag from Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh. But, while avoiding the tag, Osvaldo’s ankle seemed to give out under him when he touched home plate in time to score a run. Then he was seen grimacing in pain and breathing heavily, lying face down on the ground.

The team staff rushed to attend to Osvaldo’s injury and called an ambulance to take the athlete away on a stretcher. His teammates gathered around him, while the rest of the T-Mobile stadium audience applauded and cheered for Osvaldo.

After the game, the Mariners tweeted: «Wishing the best for Osvaldo Cabrera». Yankees manager Aaron Boone said everyone understands that this is a «pretty serious situation».

«We're just praying for our guy Cabbie tonight and hoping for the best, and believing that he’s in good hands as he spends the night here», - Aaron said. «Obviously, it was a great game in many ways, but a lot of guys are concerned for their teammate, who is the best of the best among them».
