Donald Trump narrowly avoided becoming the victim of a third assassination attempt? At his recent rally in Southern California, the 78-year-old Republican candidate addressed supporters just weeks before the 2024 presidential election. In his fight for another term in the White House against Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump has faced several shooting threats in various states in the USA. Find out more about what happened at Trump’s rally in Coachella.
During Trump’s rally in Coachella on Saturday, October 12, there were no shots fired. However, a man named Vem Miller was arrested for bringing a loaded pistol and high-capacity magazine to the event, as reported by ABC 7. The Las Vegas resident was detained at the John J. Benoit jail in Indio, California, suspected of illegally possessing a loaded firearm and high-capacity magazine, according to online records reviewed by Hollywood Life. He was later released on bail of $ 5,000.
At a subsequent press conference on Sunday, October 13, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office assured that Miller’s intentions did not affect either Trump or anyone else present at his rally.
According to online inmate records from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Miller is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2025, at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
There have been two assassination attempts on Trump. On September 15, Ryan Wesley South aimed at Trump on his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. After firing shots, he fled, but authorities immediately arrested him.
Two months ago, Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several shots towards Trump while he was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. One bullet grazed Trump’s ear, and the Secret Service quickly escorted him off stage to a car. Crooks was shot by a Secret Service sniper. Two rally attendees were wounded by bullets, and one of them died.
Trump has not publicly reacted to the recent threat he apparently faced at his rally in Southern California. However, he has spoken about the two previous assassination attempts. In September, Trump assured the public that he is «safe and healthy» and that he will «never give up».
After the shooting in Pennsylvania, Trump released a statement thanking the Secret Service agents «for their quick response to the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania».
«First and foremost, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person who died at the rally, as well as the family of the other person who was seriously injured», - Trump added
