Tracy Morgan became the main news in March 2025 when he was seen ill at a New York Knicks game. Sitting in the front row at Madison Square Garden, the comedian collapsed and was taken out on a stretcher during the third quarter of the game. Fans were naturally concerned about Morgan’s health, as he had issues with diabetes and alcoholism. Read on to learn more about Morgan’s health and how he is feeling now.

In 1996, Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes. In 2010, he underwent a kidney transplant. During an interview with Time magazine in 2009, the actor recalled the day he realized he needed to take his condition seriously.

«And one day I got really sick», - Morgan told Time magazine, according to Entertainment Weekly. «The doctor said, 'Listen, we might have to cut your leg off.' That was a turning point for me. Now I take insulin every day. My blood sugar level never goes above 120».

Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by «improperly high levels of glucose in the blood», - according to the National Institutes of Health. Diabetes has several categories, such as type 1, type 2, maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), gestational diabetes, and neonatal diabetes.

Morgan has also openly talked about his struggles with alcoholism. During a 2022 interview on Maino Presents Kitchen Talk on Fox Soul, the Saturday Night Live alum recalled how he started drinking heavily.

«I got on SNL and started drinking», - Morgan said. «Because doing live TV in front of 20 million people every week is like being shot out of a cannon. … When you’re famous and funny, every time you walk into a club, someone always says, 'Can I buy you a drink? Can I buy you a drink?' Because they think when you’re drunk, you’ll entertain them, but being drunk has nothing to do with your sense of humor. You’re not even focused when you’re drunk. So I’m an alcoholic. I started drinking and got two DUIs in a year. I thank the Lord that I didn’t lose a leg, didn’t kill anyone, and didn’t end up in jail».

Morgan told PEOPLE magazine in March 2024 that he uses semaglutide Ozempic, a popular weight loss medication that helps users feel full faster. Ozempic is typically prescribed to patients with type 2 diabetes.

«Ozempic has worked well for me, and I was happy to use it», - the comedian told the publication. «I take Ozempic every Thursday. It reduces my appetite almost by half».
