Three adults arrested after 15 children found in an apartment

Three adults from Georgia were arrested after 15 children were found in «horrific» conditions in a two-bedroom apartment. Ashley Jackson, Derrick Jackson, and Briana Reynolds were taken into custody on September 24 and charged with multiple felonies related to child abuse, as well as possession of marijuana.
According to online records, all three are being held at the Cobb County Jail without bond. Information obtained from Fox 5 indicates they were arrested after the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services requested police to conduct a welfare check on two children at the apartment complex. When detectives arrived and were unable to contact the adults, they began the process of obtaining a search warrant. At that time, 15 children aged between 1 and 17 years old exited the apartment and were subsequently placed in safe conditions.
Ashley, Derrick, and Reynolds arrived at the apartment three hours later and told police they were the biological parents of the children. During the search, detectives discovered «horrific living conditions»: in one of the bedrooms, there was a blanket covered in mold, and there were only nine beds for the 15 children and three adults. The apartment also had very little food: detectives found only a jar of peanut butter and a box of pasta, and there was no toilet paper at all.
Each of the arrested individuals faces 30 counts of child abuse. Derrick was also charged with crossing state lines with a weapon, drugs, or alcohol without consent, as police suspected he had smuggled marijuana in his rectum into the county jail. It is currently unclear whether Ashley, Derrick, or Reynolds have filed any motions or hired attorneys since their arrest. Marietta police did not respond to a request for comment on the case.
Neighbor Randi Hunter told ABC 24 that the children often left the house at odd hours and did not interact with others. «They never spoke and never looked anyone in the eye. As far as I could see, they didn’t look malnourished; it seemed like they were eating», - she added.
