As of publication, Erin is still a tropical storm, not a hurricane. The National Hurricane Center predicts that Erin will become a hurricane on Friday, August 16.

Spaghetti models have shown that Erin should not make landfall anywhere on the East Coast, but on Thursday, August 14, meteorologists announced that Erin had shifted slightly to the east. As of 5 a.m. Eastern Time, the system in the Atlantic Ocean was approximately 860 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, up from 45 miles per hour earlier this week.

No coastal wave or hurricane warnings from the NHC are currently in effect.

The NHC warned that Erin may come close enough to the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico to have some impact, but it is still unclear what potential impact Erin may have.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he is sending aid to Puerto Rico in anticipation of the hurricane.

«We are glad to help coordinate the rescue of Americans in danger», - Newsom wrote in his tweet on August 13.

No, Florida is not currently in the path of Tropical Storm Erin. However, when it becomes a hurricane, everything could change, including its path depending on its strength as it approaches warmer waters
