TSA agents are facing serious difficulties at work, which have worsened in recent weeks due to unpaid labor. With the ongoing partial government shutdown, Democrats and Republicans in Congress have been unable to reach a compromise on issues related to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), resulting in TSA employees working without pay. Donald Trump signed an order for delayed salary payments. So when exactly will TSA agents receive their salaries?

At the end of March, Trump announced on the social media platform Truth Social that he would «sign an order directing the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, to immediately pay our TSA agents to resolve this emergency situation and quickly stop the chaos caused by the Democrats at airports. This is no easy task, but I am going to do it!»

«I want to thank our hardworking TSA agents, as well as ICE, for the incredible assistance they have provided us at airports», - added the Republican president.

Six weeks of working without pay has become a significant burden for TSA employees: hundreds have resigned, and thousands have taken sick leave. Naturally, wait times at TSA checkpoints have sharply increased due to staff shortages. Trump directed ICE agents to assist TSA, but delays at airports did not decrease.

The agency announced that employees «may begin receiving pay as early as Monday, March 30».

«TSA is grateful to the president and the secretary for their leadership in returning money to the pockets of TSA employees who worked without pay during the longest government shutdown in history», - the agency concluded in its statement, according to ABC News.

After more than a month of working without pay, Trump issued an order for TSA employees' compensation.

«I hereby direct the Secretary of Homeland Security, in coordination with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, to use funds that have a reasonable and logical connection to TSA operations to provide TSA employees with the compensation and benefits they would have received but for the Democrat-led DHS shutdown, in accordance with applicable law», - the president wrote on Truth Social.

According to several sources, about 61,000 TSA agents still have not received their second full paycheck. Therefore, many, if not all, have yet to receive everything owed to them at the time of publication.

As of March 30, CNN reported that TSA wait times at airports had «improved» compared to the hours-long delays travelers faced for several weeks.

Since about 500 TSA agents resigned during the shutdown, wait times at some airports may still be quite high
