The cause of death of 13-year-old Fiona, daughter of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter, was suicide, as confirmed by the Los Angeles coroner’s office. Fiona was pronounced dead on September 29 at 1:14 AM.
Chad Lowe and Kim Painter announced the loss of their daughter in a joint statement on September 30, describing Fiona as «a loving young girl, smart, creative, and passionate about dance». The couple also has two other daughters: 17-year-old Mabel and 10-year-old Nixie. In their statement, the parents expressed deep sorrow and requested prayers and respect for their privacy during this difficult time.
Lowe and Painter noted that Fiona had been struggling with mental health issues and urged anyone in crisis to seek help. Their statement included information about a crisis hotline.
Among the close friends of the family who expressed condolences was Chad’s longtime friend, Chris Ufland, who remarked that the actor is going through «something unimaginable». He encouraged people in pain to reach out for support from loved ones or professionals.
Chad Lowe and his family previously experienced tragedy when they lost their home in wildfires in January 2025. Later, in November of that same year, he celebrated Fiona’s 13th birthday, congratulating her on entering her teenage years.
