Brian Thompson was shot and killed on Wednesday, and the New York police are actively searching for the perpetrator.

The CEO of UnitedHealthcare, one of the largest healthcare insurance companies in the United States, was shot around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4th, outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan, located on Avenue of the Americas near 54th Street. The 50-year-old man was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. At the time of the shooting, Thompson was reportedly on his way to the company’s annual investor conference in New York.

He leaves behind his wife, Polett «Polly» Thompson, and two children.

Learn more about Polett and their family below.

Brian’s wife, Polett, was born in Webster City, Iowa. She works as a physical therapist at Park Nicollet Health Services and earned a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Iowa, where Brian also studied.

Brian and Polett were raising their two young sons in a $ 1.5 million family home in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

According to the Daily Mail, her work biography states: «I love spending time with my two boys and driving them to all their activities. I also love boating, spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, biking, and traveling. I am dedicated and passionate about wellness and want to change other people’s lives. I love helping people recover from injuries and giving them a sense of power over their health so they can live a full life — to get them back to baseline or, in some cases, exceed it».

After news of her husband’s fatal shooting, Polett told NBC News: «There were threats» against her husband.

«I mostly don’t know, lack of coverage? I don’t know the details», - she said. «I just know that he said there were people threatening him».

«I can’t give a thoughtful response right now», - she continued. «I just found out about this and am trying to comfort my children».

New information shows that the suspect was armed with a silencer and fled through Central Park.

«There were threats», - said Polett Thompson.

In a statement to CNN on Wednesday, she said: «We are shattered by the horrific news of the senseless murder of our beloved Brian. Brian was an incredibly loving, generous, talented man who truly lived life to the fullest and touched so many lives. Most importantly, Brian was an incredibly loving father to our two sons and he is greatly missed»
