The murder of Jonathan Joss sparked national outrage over assumptions that his killing was homophobic. The actor, known for his roles in the TV shows «King of the Hill» and «Parks and Recreation», - was fatally shot in San Antonio, Texas on June 1, 2025. Although the San Antonio police stated that there is no evidence pointing to a hate crime, those close to Joss have spoken out about it. The suspect has now been named.
Below are updates on the suspect who allegedly shot Joss, and more information about the investigation.
Joss was an actor best known for his role as John Redcorn in «King of the Hill», - including its upcoming revival. He also played the lead role of Ken Hotate in «Parks and Recreation».
Additionally, Jonathan’s IMDb profile lists many other roles he played, including in «Walker, Texas Ranger», - «The Wild Thornberrys», - «Charm», - «ER», - «In Plain Sight», - «Friday Night Lights», - «Parks and Recreation», - and «Tulsa King».
The suspect in Joss’s murder is a man named Sigfredo Alvarez Seja, who was a former neighbor of Joss, according to Newsweek.
According to Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern De Gonzalez, the actor was shot as a result of a hate crime.
«[Jonathan] was killed by someone who couldn’t stand to see two men loving each other», - Tristan said on Facebook in June 2025. He continued to describe the alleged events leading up to Jonathan’s death. «My husband Jonathan Joss and I were shot while checking the mail at our former home. This home had been burned down after more than two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would burn it down. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times, and nothing was done. During this time, we were regularly harassed by people who clearly did not accept our relationship. Most of the harassment was openly homophobic».
Tristan continued his accusations: «When we returned to check the mail, we found the skull of one of our dogs and his leash displayed. This caused both of us intense emotional pain. We began screaming and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. As we did this, a man approached us. He began shouting violent homophobic insults. Then he raised a gun from his knee and shot. Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing together. When the man shot, Jonathan pushed me aside. He saved my life».
The San Antonio police stated in a statement that there is currently no «evidence that Mr. Joss’s murder is related to his sexual orientation»
