A Phoenix, Arizona elementary school teacher, Gabriel Lorenzo Chacon, was arrested after he allegedly confessed to committing sexual crimes against children. According to a federal criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, Chacon was taken into custody on October 7 following a search of his home.
Chacon, 32, faces charges of distributing child sexual abuse materials and possessing with intent to view child pornography involving victims under the age of 12. The investigation began after the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force received information from an Australian police officer who was monitoring an encrypted chat group called «Ganymede Brotherhood», - created for sharing illegal materials.
Authorities learned about Chacon on October 2 when an account named «ND Dom» posed a question in the group: «Suppose you are a teacher and you have 3 hours to spend in class after school, what would you do?» The message was accompanied by three devil emojis. In another message, Chacon allegedly wrote: «Hail Satan, hail pedo-power!» and expressed a desire to engage in sexual acts between classes.
Undercover, a police officer initiated a lengthy conversation with the user later identified as Chacon. He allegedly shared information about being a third-grade teacher and his attraction to younger boys. Chacon also sent five videos containing child abuse, as well as selfies and his Telegram username.
Detectives from New South Wales police used open databases to link the Telegram username to a phone number registered to Chacon. Investigators subsequently found his Instagram account, which confirmed that he worked at Enchanto Elementary School in the Osborne School District. The FBI confirmed that Chacon was actively employed at the school and matched his IP address to an address registered in his name.
Federal agents arrived at Chacon’s home on October 6 and conducted physical surveillance. After obtaining a search warrant, they were able to apprehend him. Following his arrest, Chacon allegedly confessed to using the encrypted messaging platform, possessing illegal materials, and distributing them in the chat group, claiming that his actions were «just fantasy» and that he had never physically abused children.
In connection with the arrest, the Osborne School District confirmed the information regarding Chacon’s detention in a statement. The district assured that law enforcement had no information suggesting that students from Osborne Elementary School were in any way connected to the alleged crimes. After learning of Chacon’s arrest, he was immediately placed on administrative leave, with restricted access to district technology and buildings, and the information was reported to the Arizona State Board of Education.
It is currently unclear whether Chacon has entered a plea or hired an attorney following his arrest. The investigation is ongoing. Parents, teachers, and guardians interested in protecting children from exploitation can find helpful tools and information at Know2Protect.
