Teacher Nicholas Madsen arrested for relationship with minor

A teacher from Colorado has been arrested following allegations of child exploitation during an investigation that lasted more than a month. According to the Colorado Springs police, Nicholas Madsen was taken into custody on October 14 and charged with using computer services for illegal sexual communication with a minor.
The 41-year-old Madsen came to the attention of law enforcement after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported on September 9 that a man from Colorado Springs had been communicating online with a minor girl from Florida. During the investigation, a detective from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Florida contacted the potential victim and learned that the girl allegedly sent Madsen explicit videos and photos.
It is unclear how exactly Madsen and the victim first connected and how long they communicated before his arrest. It later emerged that Madsen worked as a teacher at CIVA Charter High School in Colorado Springs. Following his arrest, the school confirmed that he had been hired in 2019 and taught theater arts. In light of the allegations, he has been placed on leave.
The school stated that the safety and well-being of students have always been and will continue to be their top priority, and they are fully cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation. It is currently unclear whether Madsen has entered a plea or hired an attorney. The Colorado Springs police have not provided any additional updates on the case.
