Currently, the San Diego County is facing the threat of wildfires. Less than two weeks after the Los Angeles County was devastated by several fires (including the destructive Palisades and Eaton fires), many residents of San Diego were issued evacuation orders due to several brush fires. Although the damage in San Diego is not as extensive as the destruction in Los Angeles, wildfires in California are causing concern for this season and the future.

Get updates on all fires in the San Diego County, including containment, evacuations, and more, below.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, four fires occurred in the San Diego County: the Lylac fire, the Pala fire, the Riverview fire, and the Friars fire. The Lylac fire is the largest of the three and quickly engulfed over 80 acres.

The Friars fire initially caused panic as it broke out near the Mission Valley area, which is located a few miles from downtown San Diego.

The causes of the fires are still unknown. However, high gusty winds and dry conditions have been cited as fuel for wildfires in California.

Evacuations were ordered in Bonsall due to the Lylac fire, and 86 people were forced to leave their homes because of the flames, according to multiple sources.

Evacuation orders for the Pala fire were lifted on January 21, as reported by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department on Twitter.

A brush fire near the Fashion Valley Mall caused concern when it was seen on a nearby hillside. The flames prompted evacuation orders, but the mall was not affected by the fire.

According to Cal Fire, the Lylac fire was 50% contained by 6:00 PM Pacific Time on January 21. The Pala fire, which broke out near the city of Pala Mesa, was quickly extinguished but initially prompted evacuation orders. The Riverview fire was also quickly extinguished that day and burned approximately one acre of land
