Will Smith gives a rare musical performance during a surprise appearance at the Coachella festival

J Balvin brought Coachella back to 1997 when he surprised the crowd with a guest performance by Will Smith to perform «Men in Black» on Saturday, April 13th. The Oscar-winning 55-year-old actor took the stage to perform his song from the 1997 sci-fi comedy during J Balvin’s performance, and it was the perfect embodiment of the film.
Will appeared towards the end of J Balvin’s performance, where he performed hits like «Rojo», «Que Mas pues», «In da Getto», and others, according to Setlist.fm. The rapper also invited Jowell & Randy, as well as De La Ghetto, to join him on stage. Will came out towards the end to perform the theme from «Men in Black». He was dressed as his character James Darrell Edwards III, known as Agent J, in a black suit and sunglasses, and the stage setting definitely evoked images from the beloved 90s film.
Will and J Balvin performed in front of a giant alien head. This alien was a classic depiction of a «Grey», with a bald, oddly-shaped head and large, black, oval eyes. Dancers as a background ensemble were also dressed in green suits, resembling the giant alien head at the center of the stage. Several other dancers were dressed in costumes to look like members of the «Men in Black».
Although Will is known as a rapper and actor, in recent years he has mostly stayed on the big screen. His last studio album was released in 2005 titled «Lost and Found», and his last public musical performance was in 2019, according to Setlist.fm.
The «I Am Legend» actor seemed to have some family support when he took the stage in the desert. His son Jaden Smith, who is also a musician, was spotted at the festival, sharing a sweet dance moment with his friend Justin Bieber during the sunset at the show
