William H. Macy opened up about his feelings towards all the actors who played his children in the classic series «Shameless» in a new interview on the podcast «Movies to be Buried With with Brett Goldstein» on Wednesday, May 29. Reflecting on the Showtime series, 74-year-old William said he was happy to see how far the actors who played his children had come.
For those who may not have seen the critically acclaimed series, William plays the father of Frank Gallagher in «Shameless», - and he is the father of six children: Fiona (Emmy Rossum), Lip (Jeremy Allen White), Debbie (Emma Kenney), Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), Liam (Christian Isaiah), and Ian (Cameron Monaghan). Despite the series ending in 2021, many of the actors have continued their careers in critically acclaimed projects, such as Jeremy’s role in «The Bear». Emmy has also starred in many hit movies and TV shows, such as «The Phantom of the Opera».
Although William was just their on-screen father, he admitted that he still feels a fatherly pride when he sees how well they are doing. While he believed the end of «Shameless» was timely, he acknowledged that he still «proud» of the other actors. «They're all doing so well, which is great. And I feel like they’re my adopted kids, so I’m very proud of them», - he said on the podcast, according to People. «It was very, very sad, and I miss them».
William also said he «loved» filming «Shameless», - and explained that he believes it improved his acting skills. «Just the fact that we did it for so long, I finally settled down, and damn, my acting got better, and damn, people liked me more», - he said.
«Shameless» concluded in 2021 after 11 seasons and 134 episodes. During its run, the show received four Emmy Awards. William was nominated six times for the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award during the show’s run, but did not win
