James Ranson, an actor known for his roles in films such as «It: Chapter Two», - «The Black Phone», - the series «The Wire», - and other projects, passed away earlier this month. He was 46 years old. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office released information regarding the cause of his death, stating that he died on December 19, 2025.

In a touching Instagram post, Ranson’s wife, Jamie McPhee, shared a photo of herself and her late husband embracing as he holds her pregnant belly.

«I told you I loved you a thousand times, and I know I will love you again», - McPhee wrote in the caption. «You told me I needed to be more like you, and you needed to be more like me, and you were right. Thank you for the greatest gifts— you, Jack, and Violet. We are forever».

Ranson gradually climbed the career ladder in film and television. He gained recognition for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the series «The Wire» and as Corporal Josh Ray Person in «Generation Kill».

The late Maryland native was also known for his roles in supernatural thrillers and horror films, including «Sinister», - «Sinister 2», - «Tangerine», - «It: Chapter Two», - and «The Black Phone».

According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, Ranson died by suicide. Online documents indicate that he died from hanging.

In May 2021, Ranson accused his math tutor of sexual abuse that occurred in 1992. Although he reported it to the Baltimore County Police in 2020, they reportedly declined to pursue the case after an investigation. According to The Baltimore Sun, the police notified the Baltimore County school system about these allegations.

In October 2016, in an interview with Interview magazine, Ranson revealed that he had struggled with heroin addiction for five years.
