Former San Jose State football player Jelani Newman has passed away at the age of 25 due to a «sudden motorcycle accident». His friend Domenica Chivitano announced this on the GoFundMe page created to support Newman’s family.
Chivitano noted that Newman was a smart, kind, funny, brave, and ambitious person who left a lasting impact on the lives of those who knew him. The funds raised will help his family cope with the difficulties associated with saying goodbye. «Financial support will help Jelani’s loved ones honor his memory at the memorial service and ensure a proper burial», - she added.
At the time of publication, over $ 5,000 had been raised on the GoFundMe page out of a planned $ 13,000. The San Jose State football program also expressed condolences to Newman’s family, releasing a statement: «Our hearts are with the Newman family during this time. Forever in our hearts #72».
Newman played as an offensive lineman for the team from 2018 to 2022. Prior to college, he was a two-time All-Region 4A first-team selection in Arizona and was recognized as one of the top players in his region.
