Frankie Beverly, a soul singer from the R&B group Maze, has passed away. He was 77 years old. His family, originally from Philadelphia, confirmed this news in a public statement they released on September 11, 2024.

«The sadness of losing a loved one is a deep personal and emotional experience», - wrote Beverly’s family in their statement. «During this time, as we experience feelings of grief, reflection, and memories, we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, giving us space to grieve in our own way. This period for us is a time of healing, and your respect for our need for solitude is appreciated as we honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly, known to the world as Frankie Beverly».

In the statement, Frankie’s loved ones added that he «lived his life with a pure soul, as someone once said, and no one did it better for us», - and that he «lived for his music, family, and friends».

«Love each other as he would have wanted for all of us», - they concluded.

In honor of the late soul singer, Hollywood Life has gathered five facts about Frankie below.

Frankie was born Howard Stanley Beverly.

The late singer’s son, Antoni, toured with the Maze group on drums.

As a teenager, Frankie formed a vocal group called The Blenders. He later founded The Butlers, also known as Frankie Beverly and The Butlers. Throughout the 1960s, the group released music and eventually moved from Philadelphia to San Francisco, where they changed the group’s name to Maze.

As the R&B artist maintained a private life throughout his musical career, it is unclear how Frankie passed away or if he was battling any illness by the end of his life.

During a 2014 interview with Ebony, Frankie praised Beyoncé but noted that he would like her to take the «next step» as an artist by recording music other than pop music.

«I think Beyoncé is ready to take the next step, and I’ll tell you what I mean», - Frankie said before explaining, «She can really sing, but I would like to see her show her skills. I mean, she’s a mother and a wife now. So I would like to hear her record Christmas carols or perform live with an orchestra… just sing».

Ten years later, Beyoncé released her country album Cowboy Carter
