Gil Gerard, known for his role as Buck Rogers, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 82. His wife, Janet Gerard, confirmed the sad news in a statement written by her late husband, which she posted on Facebook.

«If you are reading this, it means Janet has posted it as I requested», - Gerard wrote in his final words. «My life has been an amazing journey. The opportunities I have been given, the people I have met, and the love I have given and received have made my 82 years on this planet deeply fulfilling. My journey took me from Arkansas to New York, then to Los Angeles, and ultimately to my home in North Georgia with my wonderful wife Janet, with whom I spent 18 years».

Gerard concluded that his life was «a wonderful ride, but like all things, it has come to an end». The actor’s last advice to his fans was: «Don't waste time on what doesn’t bring you joy or love. See you somewhere in the cosmos».

Hollywood Life remembers Gerard’s life and career.

Before moving to major cities like New York and Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, Gerard was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas.

After dropping out of the University of Central Arkansas, Gerard moved to New York and worked as a taxi driver to pay his bills.

In the early years of his acting career, Gerard primarily appeared in television commercials and had small roles in films. But in the late 1970s, he landed his iconic role in «Buck Rogers in the 25th Century».

Throughout his life, Gerard spoke openly about his past addictions and weight issues. After overcoming addictions to cocaine and alcohol, he struggled to control his eating habits, which led to weight gain. In the early 2000s, he underwent a mini-gastrectomy.

Before finding the love of his life in his fifth wife, Janet, Gerard was married four times. His first marriage to a secretary from Arkansas lasted less than a year. He then married a banker, and their marriage lasted less than ten years.

In 1979, he married his third wife, Connie Selleca, who was also an actress. The couple had a son, Gilbert «Gib», - but they divorced in 1987. That same year, Gerard married his fourth wife, interior designer Bobbi Leonard, but they separated two years later.

Finally, Gerard met Janet, and they were together until the end of his life. She paid tribute to her late husband after the announcement of his death in December 2025.

«No matter how many years I spent with him, it was never enough», - she wrote, adding, «Hold your loved ones tight and love them passionately».

Janet Gerard reported that he died from a «rare and aggressive form of cancer», - although she did not specify which type.
