Wayne Osmond passed away at the age of 73 as the new year began on January 1, 2025. The late guitarist’s death was announced by his family the following day. Osmond’s brother, Merrill Osmond, shared the news on Facebook, writing that he «immediately went to the hospital in Salt Lake City to say goodbye to him».
«My brother was a saint even before he was born, and he will leave as an even greater saint than he came», - wrote Osmond’s brother. «I have never met a person with greater humility. A person without any deceit. A person who was quick to forgive and had the ability to show unconditional love to everyone he met. … My brother Wayne went through a lot. He gave it his all. His legacy will remain in history as a man who was not only a genius in music, but also able to capture the hearts of millions of people and bring them closer to God».
Osmond passed away from the same illness he had faced in the past. He was a guitarist for the Osmond Brothers group for decades, which later became a quintet known as The Osmonds. From the 1960s to the end of the 2010s, he performed alongside his brothers Alan, Merrill, Jay, and Donny Osmond, who later performed with sister Marie Osmond. The brother-sister duo became known as Donny and Marie.
Osmond faced several health problems before his death. In 1997, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The tumor was later removed, but in 2012 Osmond suffered a stroke and survived. According to Deseret, the stroke left him unable to play the guitar professionally. Additionally, surgeries he underwent to treat cancer led to hearing loss.
«I've had a wonderful life», - he told journalists in 2018. «And you know, hearing isn’t as important as it seems. My favorite thing to do now is tend to my garden. I turn off my hearing aids, deaf as a doornail, shut everything out, it’s really joyful».
Osmond passed away from a stroke, noted his brother Merrill in a Facebook memory of his late brother.
«When I learned that my dear brother Wayne had suffered a massive stroke, my first reaction was to fall to my knees and pray that he would have the assurance that his mission was accomplished, and he succeeded in many ways», - wrote Osmond’s brother
