Irving Lorenzo, one of the most famous record producers and music producers, passed away at the age of 54.
Born in 1970 and raised in Queens, New York, Gotti, whose real name is Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., founded Murder Inc. Records in 1998 with his brother Chris Gotti, as a division of Def Jam Records. Over the years, he collaborated with several outstanding artists, including DMX, Ashanti, and Ja Rule.
Def Jam Records expressed their condolences for Gotti in a statement on Instagram on Thursday, expressing their condolences to his loved ones.
«Def Jam Recordings and the extended Def Jam family of artists, executives, and employees deeply mourn the loss of Irv Gotti [sic]», - the statement read. «His contributions to Def Jam as an A&R executive and in partnership with Murder Inc. helped pave the way for the next generation of artists and producers, a force that reshaped the sound landscape of hip-hop and R&B. His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture spawned countless hits, defining an era of music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide».
The cause of Gotti’s death has not been disclosed.
Although the exact cause of Gotti’s death is still unknown, The Hollywood Reporter reported that he had suffered strokes in recent years.
Just before news of Gotti’s death became known, Kyle Justis from AllHipHop stated that the music producer had suffered a stroke that led to bleeding in the brain, as reported by WBLS. The day before Gotti’s death was announced, record producer Russell Simmons shared a post on Instagram expressing concern about Gotti’s health. In his message, Simmons revealed that Gotti had been placed on life support.
«I pray for Irv’s full recovery», - Simmons captioned his post. «Such a fun, inspired, kind person, so beloved, people, keep praying. People my age and younger are seeing the consequences of toxic food and a toxic environment, pray for our brother and try to make the necessary changes to your diets and lifestyles».
He also struggled with health issues related to diabetes, which he discussed in August 2023 in an interview on the «Drink Champs» podcast on Revolt TV.
Gotti leaves behind children — Angie, Sonny, and Jonathan Wilson, whom he shared with his ex-wife, Debbie Lorenzo.
They added: «As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy as we mourn the passing of our father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We find solace in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us»
