In a 2021 interview with Irish Sun, O’Dwyer reminisced about his childhood spent in rural Ireland.

«I was lucky; I grew up on a farm, so I was always lifting and throwing things around», - he said.

In his 20s, O’Dwyer worked in road maintenance in Ireland.

During his competition preparations, he consumed a significant amount of calories to build muscle mass, as he told Irish Sun.

«Before competitions, I eat about 9,000 or 10,000 calories a day, and each training session lasts four hours», - he explained. «It's a tough time when you’re constantly loading your body with that many calories and lifting weights».

In a conversation with Irish Times in 2018, O’Dwyer admitted that he developed bad drinking habits while working in road maintenance.

«When you work on the road, there’s a lot of drinking involved», - he noted. «You're constantly going for beers and then back to work the next morning. It was a constant cycle… Honestly, I drank a lot and was going down a bad path».

O’Dwyer eventually realized he needed to «get himself together». He began competing as a strongman.
