English writer Sophie Kinsella (real name: Madeleine Sophie Wickham), whose books inspired the creation of the film «Confessions of a Shopaholic» starring Isla Fisher, passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 55. This was announced in an Instagram post published on her account that same day.

«With deep regret, we announce that our beloved Sophie (also known as Maddy and Mommy) left us this morning», - the caption read. «She passed away peacefully, and her last days were filled with those she loved: family, music, warmth, Christmas, and joy».

The post also noted: «We cannot imagine life without her brightness and love for life. Despite her illness, which she fought with incredible courage, Sophie considered herself truly happy to have such a wonderful family and friends, as well as extraordinary success in her writing career. She never took anything for granted and was always grateful for the love she received».

Sophie Kinsella was the author of a series of books about shopaholics, which were adapted into the successful film «Confessions of a Shopaholic». She published numerous works.

Kinsella passed away after battling glioblastoma. She announced her diagnosis—stage four glioblastoma—in 2024.

Glioblastoma is a common and aggressive form of brain cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord and primarily affects adults.

Kinsella was diagnosed with this disease in 2022 but waited two years before sharing it. In an interview on the «Good Morning America» program in July 2024, the late writer spoke about the early signs of her illness.

«The first symptoms I noticed were related to my legs. I was tripping and falling», - she explained. «I started having very severe headaches. I became very confused. But when I started falling off my chair, we realized that something was really wrong».

After going to the hospital, an MRI confirmed that Kinsella had a stage four brain tumor. A few days later, she underwent surgery.

«It was an eight-hour operation», - Kinsella recounted. «They found the tumor and removed it as much as they could see… You have to celebrate your victories, wherever they may be. And the surgery was our victory».

However, she subsequently faced memory loss and underwent a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy
