Hurricane Milton threatens the west coast of Florida immediately after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helen. After intensifying to a category 3, and then quickly becoming a category 4 on the Gulf Coast, residents of the Sunshine State are preparing for the worst. As Walt Disney World may be in the path of the hurricane, will the parks in Orlando be closed?
Milton is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, October 9, and is expected to sweep across the remainder of Florida by the end of the week. Milton is then expected to turn over the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, but meteorologists have noted that it is still too early to predict the exact path of the hurricane.
As of Monday, October 7, Disneyland is still open, the Walt Disney Company reported in a statement on the Orlando parks website. However, Disney also urged guests to «prepare for local weather conditions and check the weather forecast for Central Florida».
«The Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating as usual», - the statement read. «We are closely monitoring the path of the anticipated storm, continuing to prioritize the safety of our guests and employees».
According to the parks' weather policy, if the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues a warning seven days before a guest’s scheduled arrival date, the guest may «reschedule or cancel their vacation package at Walt Disney Travel Company hotels and most room-only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change penalties imposed by Disney».
According to Florida Today, Disneyland temporarily closed park reservations for Tuesday, October 8, and Wednesday, October 9.
According to the NHC, Milton «rapidly intensified to a category 4» on October 7, the organization reported through H.
Last month, Hurricane Helen made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on September 26. The storm moved up the east coast and ultimately claimed the lives of over 200 people in several southern states
