The hurricane season has definitely arrived, and the latest storm — Hurricane Milton — is heading towards Florida. The former tropical cyclone has now intensified into a Category 5 hurricane, according to several sources, and residents are rushing to evacuate or prepare for it. As Orlando will be affected by Milton, the city’s attractions, including Universal Studios, may be forced to close.
On Monday, October 7, Milton quickly jumped from a Category 3 hurricane to a Category 4 hurricane. Within a few hours, several sources reported that it had been classified as a Category 5 hurricane. As a result, mandatory evacuations were announced throughout the Sunshine State, and Tampa Bay International Airport announced temporary closure this week.
This is already the second hurricane to hit Florida in the last month. Two weeks ago, Hurricane Helen struck the west coast of Florida, causing damage and injuring 200 people in several southern states.
As of Sunday, October 6, Universal Studios in Orlando is still open, the Florida resort reported on its website.
«At this time, our park operations and hours continue as usual», - the announcement read. «We are closely monitoring the weather».
For guests who have purchased tickets to Universal Studios, the resort has recommendations for inclement weather. According to its website, Universal’s policy states: «In the event of a hurricane or tropical storm warning being issued by the National Hurricane Center or a state of emergency being declared for the Orlando area or your place of residence, within seven days of your arrival, you may contact our team in advance to reschedule or cancel your Universal Parks & Resorts vacation package, hotel-only bookings and Universal Orlando theme park tickets booked directly through Universal Orlando, without penalty for cancellation or change».
On Monday, October 7, Disney World announced that it is still open, in a statement published on the parks' website. However, Disney also urged guests to «prepare for local weather conditions and check the weather forecast for Central Florida».
«The Walt Disney Resort is currently operating as usual», - the statement read. «We are closely monitoring the path of the anticipated storm, continuing to prioritize the safety of our guests and employees»
