Broadway lost one of its own, Gavin Creel, who passed away on Monday, September 30, at the age of 48 in Manhattan, New York. The actor was known for his performances on Broadway in several plays. His work was appreciated by many, including famous stars such as actor Josh Gad, who wrote on Instagram: «Sometimes I don’t have the right words to describe my sadness. Today is one of those days. We lost someone too young, too early in his path and too influential to our creative community».

In addition, Idina Menzel also honored his memory, sharing on Instagram: «Dear Gavin Creel. An angel among angels. I love you so much».

Despite his magnificent career, many are questioning the cause of the Tony award-winning actor’s death.

Gavin Creel was born on April 18, 1976 in Findlay, Ohio. According to his website, he graduated from the School of Music at the University of Michigan. He began his Broadway career in 2002, earning his first Tony nomination that same year.

He won his first Tony in 2017 for his role as Cornelius Hackl in «Hello, Dolly!» starring Bette Midler. In a 2018 interview with The San Francisco Chronicle, he spoke about his victory: «The Tony really felt like a hug from the community I’ve been in for 20 years». He added, «It's nice. I could literally do nothing else in my life, and I would still be a Tony winner. I’ll never not be that».

According to the New York Post, Gavin Creel passed away from metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sarcoma, a cancer he was diagnosed with in July 2024. According to the Mayo Clinic, his illness is «rare cancers that begin in the sheath of nerves. These cancers arise in nerves that extend from the spinal cord into the body, called peripheral nerves».

In addition to Broadway, Gavin appeared in several television and film roles. His website notes his appearances in American Horror Story (created by Ryan Murphy), Eloise at the Plaza, and others
