Phil Robertson, the bearded patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family, passed away on May 25, 2025 at the age of 79 after battling Alzheimer’s disease and other health complications. Known for turning his passion for duck hunting into the multimillion-dollar empire Duck Commander, Phil became a household name thanks to the reality show on the A&E channel showcasing his family’s faith and lifestyle in the wilderness.

Before becoming famous as a duck call magnate and reality show star, Phil spent several years working as a teacher. He later founded Duck Commander in 1972, turning it into an extremely successful business and the foundation of Duck Dynasty. Prior to all of this, Phil was a quarterback at Louisiana Tech University, where he famously played instead of future NFL star Terry Bradshaw.
Phil openly expressed his conservative Christian values, often using his platform to voice his opinions on politics, culture, and morality.
He sparked controversy when he stated that homosexuality is sinful during an interview with GQ magazine in January 2014. A&E quickly suspended his participation in the show before reinstating him 9 days later due to strong protests from his supporters. He continued to shock the audience a year later at his appearance at the CPAC 2015 (Conservative Political Action Conference). One of the many shocking statements he made was his claim that STDs are a legacy of Nazis, communists, beatniks, and hippies.
