Estée Lauder Companies, the famous cosmetic empire, mourns the loss of Leonard Lauder, one of the two heirs of the company. Lauder passed away at the age of 92 on June 14, 2025, as announced by his family and the company. Here we remember Lauder’s contribution, his life, career, and family.

According to Bloomberg, Lauder had a net worth of over $ 15 billion before his death. In 2021, Bloomberg named Lauder the 44th richest person in the world. At that time, his fortune was over $ 32 billion.

Lauder was married twice. His first wife, Evelyn Hausner, passed away in 2011 from ovarian cancer. She was an Austrian-American businesswoman credited with creating the pink ribbon symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Four years after Hausner’s death, Lauder married photographer Judy Glickman. They remained together until Lauder’s death in 2025.

Lauder had children. With Hausner, he had two sons: William, the executive chairman of Estée Lauder Companies, and Gary, the managing director of Lauder Partners LLC.

William paid tribute to his late father in a statement, according to a press release from Estée Lauder Companies.

«Throughout his life, my father tirelessly worked to build and transform the beauty industry, engaging in many innovations, trends, and best practices that are the foundation of the industry today», - said the board member. «He was the most compassionate person I ever knew, believing that art and education belong to everyone, and supporting the fight against diseases like Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Above all, my father was a man who showed kindness to everyone he met. His influence was immense. He believed that employees are the heart and soul of our company, and they adored him and the moments spent with him. His warmth and care left a mark on our company, industry, and, of course, our family. Together with my family, Estée Lauder Companies, and the countless people he touched, we celebrate his outstanding life».

Gary echoed his brother’s words in his own statement, which read: «My father was a remarkable man, a leader in business, a devoted philanthropist, and a deeply loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. … For me, he was also a constant source of support, wisdom, and love. His legacy is immense, not only in the beauty industry, but in countless lives improved by his charitable efforts and passionate commitment to art, education, and healthcare. He was not only respected and admired, but also adored by his employees and colleagues».

Estée Lauder Companies did not disclose the exact cause of Lauder’s death, but he was 92 years old. It is unknown if he was battling any specific illnesses towards the end of his life
