Dr. Jane Goodall, known for her work as a champion of chimpanzees, left behind a mountain of research and scientific achievements when she passed away. Goodall was 91 years old when her namesake institute announced her death in a statement on October 1, 2025.

«The Jane Goodall Institute learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, passed away from natural causes», - the institute announced. «She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States. Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as a primatologist revolutionized science, and she was an tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world».

Below, Hollywood Life remembers the late Dr. Goodall for her scientific research and much more.

Jane always carried her famous stuffed toy, Jubilee, with her everywhere. She received it from her father as a child, and her love for animals grew from there.

According to CNN, the late zoologist lived with a condition called prosopagnosia, or «face blindness», - which is a cognitive disorder that limits the ability to recognize faces.

Jane was married twice, first to her former husband, Dutch wildlife photographer Baron Hugo van Lawick. The duo married in 1964, and Jane was briefly known as Baroness Jane van Lawick-Goodall. They divorced in 1974 after the birth of their son, Hugo Eric Louis.

In 1975, Jane married her late husband, Derek Bryson, who was a member of the Tanzanian parliament and director of the country’s national parks. He passed away from cancer in 1980. Jane never remarried after her husband’s death.

Dr. Goodall is the subject of dozens of films, including «Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees» in 1965, «Jane Goodall: The Life and Legend» in 1990, «Jane» in 2017, and «Jane Goodall: The Hope» in 2020, all from National Geographic.

Goodall also voiced her own character in the popular Nickelodeon children’s series «The Wild Thornberrys».

Although Jane was a passionate advocate for chimpanzees and dedicated her life to them, she stated in 2011 that her favorite animal was a dog, according to The Global and Mail
